The Berlin Diabetes and Technology Meet-up
Workshop 1
April 02, 2014
After introducing ourselves we broke into 3 workgroups.
The 3 groups discussed the following topics.
Internet Solutions: Sandra Kriemann, Jon Amar, Sascha Ahlgrimm, Angel Fonseca
Identified problem:
Diabetics need a a comprehensive cross platform web application to track and analyze data, with minimum need to manually input data.
Currently available solutions have poor user interface and require too much manual input, discouraging use.
Key points:
Cross platform, flexible input, incorporate scanning, bar code scanning, fitness wearables, QS data.
Issues:
Data Security
Insulin Pump connectivity: Stefan Hermann, Jens-Uwe Rumstich, Hemendra
Identified problem:
Insulin pumps have poor connectivity with other devices.
Proposed solutions:
A measurement device that connects with smart phone, and has secure wireless connection with pump.
The phone is central point for data collection from convergent devices for:
Blood sugar
Ketones
Medications
Date/Time
Acivity
Algorithm then suggests medication amounts, and controls pump.
All information is also shared with cloud for access to stakeholders.
Issues:
Data Privacy
Secure Communication between devices
Cross platform compatibility
Reliant on disposable strips
Tech Applications in Diabetes management, Problem Areas: Amin Zayani, Sebastian Himberger, Alex Wendland, Dmitri Katz
Problems identified/Issues to be solved:
poor user interface design of current devices
diabetes apps are not sticky
no way to test effectiveness of insulin
alternate insulin delivery systems
Convergence of devices
non-invasive CGM
Standardization of data formats across devices
Better availability of peer information/experiences
Easily accessible non-biased information on products
Transparency of treatment options/products
Cost of disposables
